Mohan's Measure

While is not a part of the story, it is telling to watch Brahmanandam struggling to keep his veshti on throughout this movie.  It is symbolic of a story that just doesn't tie together correctly.

The real son to the great comedian plays his grandson, Brahma, a starving artist who takes on bit roles to earn his keep.  That he is a man of no real emotion is somehow conveyed in his relationship with his girlfriend.  So, when he is asked to accompany his grandfather, Ananda Murthy, to his native village in return for a plot of profitable farmland, we can understand the superficiality of it all.

But that is all we understand, for the rest of the movie takes us on a wild goose chase, through plots, subplots and flashbacks that really have nothing to do with the reuniting of a grandfather with his grandson.  In fact, we are left wondering whether this old man really is the grandfather to the cheesy actor. We also wonder why none of the rest of the family is involved, except at moments where they pop up out of nowhere.

Out of nowhere, too, appears a love interest...surprisingly for Mr. Murthy, who is asked to engage in yet another flashback to explain her appearance.  Add to that the sudden announcement of the engagement between Mr. Brahma with the local village belle, but the the director throws that subplot away just as quickly as it is brought in.

Both Vennela Kishore and Sampath Raj add some humorous fun to this clean family tale.  But just what they have to do with the story is force fit, almost as badly as Brahmanandam's veshti.
