Lokesh Kanagaraj has been compared to Quentin Tarantino. Indeed, his noir comedies, Maanagaram and khaidi, have received praise by critics and audiences alike. But, along comes Master, and such opinions have rapidly changed.

Master is a ridiculously long, ridiculously loud tale that features two self-obsessed actors engaged in mutual admiration and competition, putting the rest of the cast in little more than cameo appearances.

Their bro-mance takes away even from romance, as Ms. Mohanan is never featured along with her hero in song.

And, then what about those songs? Mr. Ravinder's attempt at Reggae and Blues is futile, lacking the attention he gave to Pettai. The only music to our ears is the closing credits.
