Mohan's Measure ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Had the acting by first timer Roshan been better, I think we could have easily found an award winner in Genius, which I found tucked away in the archives of Einthusan.

Mr. Roshan company of seasoned actors keep the story moving and engaging, weaving a complex tale of slightly less than educated father who lives vicariously through his son's successes, and in turn, drives him to a nervous breakdown and schizophrenia. Director Suseenthiran gives the movie a certain understated air of comedy, leaving room wide open for the hard hitting message. The message is directed at the many families, both in India and elsewhere, who put their children's mental and emotional well-being aside for tutoring sessions and extracurricular activities such that they can go to the big schools and get big jobs.

The ending scene brings to light how this contrasts with one's own childhood, spent playing with friends and being pampered by grandparents.

Ms. Lal gives a charming performance as controversial woman who restores such memories and feelings in the mind of the mental patient.  In doing so, she brings healing and forgiveness to herself, as well.
