Mohan's Measure ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Less a movie than a vignette, #Home is a bittersweet, funny, and beautifully presented story about family, generations, and the simple state of being human. It is set around Oliver Twist, the son of a writer who never really amounts to anything in life, but still wants to be proud of who he is and wants his family to be proud of him.
Indrans carries this lead character with understatement. Despite the varied emotions of his complex character, he presents us a man who on the outside, remains simple, friendly, at times, even stoic. There is great beauty in this, and it is this role which makes every moment of this film worth watching.
The other characters are not quite so hard to understand, but bring quirkiness to family life which is, after all, what being a good family is all about. Mr. Bhasi as the older son seems fixed in responsibilities which are, at times, beyond his capacity. While Mr. Gafoor offers a believable playfulness in the younger son, who is enjoying his youthfulness, and perhaps, offering a better outlook on life.
I loved the film for its simple storytelling, even though at times it was hard to follow where the story was taking you. But, the message in it is exactly what you will find yourself doing, putting your cell phone down to watch.
