A stranded man finding his way to a creepy old mansion in the middle of nowhere is a perfect setup for a horror story or a murder mystery.  But, a courtroom trial?

Inspired by the German novel, A Dangerous Game, Chehre is a cleverly woven tale of a man who winds up in a palatial home with a young woman and four octogenarians who challenge him to the ultimate game, a courtroom trial, in which he, and his real life, are tried for murder.

Both Mr. Bachchan and Mr. Hashmi give rock solid performances in this entertaining thriller, giving the film both wry wit and certain intensity.  Mr. Chatterjee and Mr. Kapoor follow through on this, provided added sophistication to the intellectual overtone.

The flashbacks, however, are what take us back to base reality, the cold hard world of money, power and sex.  It is in these, however, that the movie tends to weaken.  The other actors cannot keep up, giving the film a made-for-TV kind of feel.
