Thiruchitrambalam is to Tamil what SitaRamam is to Telugu. It is a witty, believable, but heartwarming romance with just the right dash of quirky comedy to be engaging. Its simple storyline, earthy acting, and bittersweet moments are just what we, as a burnt out movie audience, need to refresh ourselves after a summer of...how do I put this politely?...utter garbage.

As one who has a reputation for putting him down, I must actually admit that I am starting to like Dhanush. He isn't a great action star, but you put him in one of these charming slice of life films and he will take the movie to unexpected heights. Have a great lead actress like Ms. Menen to play against, and the movie becomes dynamite.

Thiruchitrambalam has the added feature of Prakash Raj as the perpetual dad. And, even Bharitaraja is brought in as a grandfather who is far more sophisticated than he makes himself out to be.

Little wonder the sell out crowds.
