Mohan's Measure ⭐⭐⭐

The Bible speaks of seven deadly sins. Thank God deals with four and adds a fifth that is unusually Vedantic, delusion, seeing life in a way that it suits one's convenience. Thoughts of Adi Sankara may come to mind, but the delusion the movie speaks about is far more the influence of Dravidian thought.

It speaks of the narcissistic delusion, in which one conveniently alters reality such that one denies one's own faults. Such a vice defines the greedy, lusty, Aayan as he suggests a perfect relationship with his wife and child, only to learn quickly how wrong he is.

Sidharth Malhotra's lost soul character is nothing before the overarching bravado of Mr. Devgn's CG. He is a combination of the Almighty, Satan and Amitabh Bachchan, Mr. Devgn brings a wonderful combination of empathy and sarcasm, with just a hint of sadistic enjoyment to his measuring the moral choices a man makes in a game show format.

I must admit, however, that despite the moral dilemma, there is an overarching lack of seriousness to the whole thing. To me, this is a littlr disappointing. But, this is Mumbai, mere dosth.

It is, however, good reason to watch this movie with the family.
