Mohan's Measure ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The only thing is the thunderstorm outside. Jaane Jaan is a juicy, dark murder mystery that plays itself like a good book. Dark undercurrents of the human condition - loneliness, desperation, skeletons in the closet - turn the misty hill station of Kalimpong into a setting for a British detective novel, as we watch a well meaning next door neighbor help a divorcee and her teenage daughter conceal a murder. But not is all Drishyam here.

Mr. Alahwat steals the show as the brilliant mathematics teacher, with his receding hair and constant nervousness to speak to a woman he is most obviously drawn to, one whose very presence perhaps prevents him from taking his own life.

Enter the cop, played with a hint of perversion by Mr. Varma. He seems to be hiding something most foul, as does everyone. His recreation of the crime makes him increasingly lusting for the suspect, and increasingly struggling to fight it.

But, there us a maturity to the stylism of this film that keeps us understanding, rather than instantly judging.  It does, however lead to the question, can a beautiful single mother be a professional killer? It is just a matter of time.
