The Hyderabad I love the most is the quiet but trendy mid-sized city of the 90s  where I fell in love at first sight with the girl of my dreams. Soon after, it was about family, shopping, Birla Mandir and the amazing mix of Islamic exoticness, Brahmin Conservativism, and of course, Vaishnava friendly food. It could perhaps explain my love for the Metroplex today.

Neither love, nor Conservativism, nor gods, not even dreamy girls is what Hyderabad is about today. It is now a modern cosmopolitan city where the fascination for the hedonistic West is now replaced by a newfound adoption of the Cavalier nature of Europe.

Miss Shetty's begins here, with a only slightly charming Anoushka looking to have a baby with the man of her dreams, um...rather the sperm of the man of her dreams through artificial insemination. She returns to Hyderabad to find Mr. Perfect in a down and out stand up comic played by the super talented Mr Naveen. He is utterly unaware he is being manipulated, and she couldn't care less.

Sparks fly and so does the comedy as the screen is taken over by Navern and his off the cuff but surprisingly family friendly impromptu humor. But the family friendliness soon ends to bittersweet drama about love never expressed, broken families, and reconciliation, all set to beautiful cool jazz. It certainly could be better - perhaps with a little more reference to the Hyderabad we once knew. But, for sure, Telugu melodrama, for better or worse, is starting to take shape.
