Non-millennials will still fondly remember Rajinikanth's extraordinary take on Mohanlal's Manichitratazh as a legendary film. Every song, every scene was nothing short of a masterpiece, and easily made one of Thalaivar's best and most successful films ever 

All this will be forgotten watching Raghava Lawrence teying to play the titular character to sheer futility. Chandramukhi 2 is not a remake or a sequel. It's a piece of nostalgia which sadly doesn't quite work.

What we see is an aging Vadivelu hoping to remain a comedian, and an amateurish Raghava Lawrence trying to be an actor.

Impressive, however, is Rao Ramesh as the gurunathar. His Tamil is as fluent, if not more, than his Telugu, and he offers a  straight man sanity to the chaos of this goofy film.

Because, no matter how much the Halloween season is apt for this movie, and despite Gen X sentiment, this ghost story deserves nothing but "boo-s."
