All the car crashes in this movie are not necessary, the movie manages to crash and burn all on its own.

The Road starts off with an interesting plot, a series of fatal car crashes on the same stretch of highway makes Meera (Trisha) suspect that this is not just a coincidence.  To avenge the death of her husband and son, she takes the case on herself, along with the assistance of a sympathetic policeman.

The acting only heightens the plot.  Trisha is getting the hang of stoic female-centric roles, and she shines in this character.  Newcomer Mr. Shabeer plays on an interesting nemesis, a former respected college professor driven to crime.

But after the first half, the director recklessly steers things the wrong way.  He and the scriptwriter find themselves at a crossroads, and they find no other option but to take the low road.  The story becomes a predictable revenge tale, with setup for a sequel.

Next time, do the next best thing and fly to Madurai.  We did and had a wonderful time.
