Mohan's Measure ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Raghu Thatha has some serious observations to make about politics, feminism, superstition, and the ongoing problem with the male ego.  But it is amazing to see how this all this is interwoven into a breezy comedy the whole family can watch.

Ms. Suresh takes center stage as Kayalvizhi, a strong-willed, independent woman who has a strong affiliation for Tamil culture and language.  Working in a bank by day, she writes women-centric novels at night in an effort to make her ideals known to the world, including her outspoken activism against the imposition of Hindi..  

Her passions are put to question, however, when her grandfather's seemingly last wishes make her propose to a man she thinks is a nice guy.  She soon finds out the error in her ways, and the hilarious comedy to end the engagement is put to play.

While he attempts to play up to par, Mr. Vijay seems timid before the acting skills of Ms. Suresh.  Adding to her, are equally impressive performances by Mr. Baskar and Devadarshini.  A surprise edition is Manoj Kumar Kalaivannan as the village doctor, whose rotund appearance and smoking addiction makes his patients skeptical. 

Set in the late 1960s, Raghu Thatha's musical score takes into consideration the times, with Euro-jazz and even a bit of the Blues setting the stage for long hair and big collared shirts.

A fun-filled tale, Raghu Thatha finally puts substance over style.
