The world is upheld by the veracity of good men, they make the earth wholesome - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Inspirational words to live by, and possibly the subject of a good family film. But, this family film waves it in our face to prove a point.
That point, directly shown by the title character, is that the true arbiters of ethics and good principles are those whose religion was not forged in the native soil. And it is because the orphan Manickam was raised by them is why he is a good man. This message is seen in the Catholic Priest who visits to bless the children and hear Thiruvasagam to the Muslim mentor who is seen carrying a display of lottery tickets oddly resembling a cross.
Mr. Manickam has great a load to bear, as his Hindu family wants him to take the low road. One requires no religion to be ethical, to have a clear conscience.
But, nothing seems to be clear as to what starts off as family turns into a very trite road movie, replete with cops and an irritatingly poor Thambi Ramiah acting as sidekick and critic. No one seems to care that Manickam ethical pilgrimage involves finding a man whose name and address he does not know.
It would seem the director is more concerned about his biased message than a good story. I pray you will be spared from this one.
