Not to be confused with the Telugu movie of the same title released a few weeks before, the Hindi Dhoom Dhaam is, in my book, Hindi cinema's return to what it can do well if allowed, family oriented screwball comedy.

Both Ms. Gautam and Mr. Gandhi give believability to a plot that is anything but believable.  But, it is just that element of a typical Indian couple sorting things out on their honeymoon night that makes this movie so funny.

A laugh-a-minute riot, the story tells the tale of what happens after a couple of mysterious characters turn up at their hotel acting for someone called Charlie. Who Charlie is, and where Charlie is, serves as the classic Hitchcock McGuffin leading to a comedy mystery reminiscent of American films of the 40s.  Every trick in the book is used, from mistaken identities, to an innocent bride proving more street-smart than her supposedly tough groom, to car/motorcycle chases and all out action. They are not things we haven't see before, but they work, and give us a belly ache from laughter, along with a warm spot from the couple's sensitivity and support for one another, which grows as the night unfolds.

A feeling of old familiar, over some warm comfort food, will make this fun family viewing.
