It is nice that the industry is going back to more home spun stories about down-to-earth, average people. KVK offers a refreshing family story about an older couple's plans to divorce, and their children's efforts to keep them together.
The reasons for their divorce is that she can't his singing, and he can't stand her concoctions. It turns, however that both are good at their respective talents, and the story evolves into how this leads to self-worth and with it, a desire to work together
Both Ms. Rana and Ms Chaddha are given full scope to explore this unusual concept, but fail in acting. Mr. Rana presents himself as the happy go lucky man who feigns to enjoy his upcoming bacherlor-hood, while Ms. Chaddha offers little more than perplexed looks to show her engagement in events.
Both Mr. Gulati and Ms. Joshi appear like first time actors, so the burden of the acting responsibilities is left to Ms. Talwar, who is most convincing at being a disillusioned NRI who wants to marry into a nice, stable family, only to have to deal with this mess.
The story gallops along at a fairly fast pace, and the humor is very reminiscent of the the breezy comedies of years past.
But, the acting makes all the fun feel mechanical, unconvincing. Most telling is the concluding scene of the whole crew singing improv qawwali lyrics to show love conquers all.
It impresses, but it just doesn't quite sing to me.
