Jurassic World Rebirth - "D-rex" of the story
Jurassic World Rebirth
2025, English
Genre: Sci-fi
Director: Gareth Edwards
Stars: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rolfo
Mohan's Measure ⭐️⭐️
Without the original cast, and with a plot written on paper the size of a cocktail napkin, the attempt to bring the famous dinosaur franchise to the 21st Century can be described as meek at best.
Certainly bringing in Ms. Johansson and Mr. Ali allows for the gritty but sensitive nuance to it, and adding Mr. Bailey as the novice but determined scientist adds a feeling of camaraderie. But the rest of the cast, when not serving as nutrition for the dinosaurs, really do little to expand our interest nor engross us in the movie.
To sum it up, the story is set in 2010, not too early to talk about climate change, but not late enough - thankfully- for everyone to have smartphones at their disposal. Zora Roberts and Duncan Kincaid are mercenaries who agree to take scientists and a big pharma rep (uh oh) back to the now forbidden island of dinosaurs to obtain samples of blood and albumin that can potentially offer cures for terrible diseases. On their way they pick up a family whose boat was capsized by one of the seafaring members of the dinosaur population. In turn both groups wind up on the island to offer different perspectives on serving as potential victims to vicious man eating creatures. The CGI of these monstrosities is amazing, except for the D-Rex, that looks very much like a further deformed version of the Alien.
The reason for two sets of characters perhaps stems from desperation, a desire to see a return for what was once a very successful franchise. I can only offer my novice observation that because of our obsession with AI and smartphones, the world of CGI generated incidents has become a thing of the past. While some see a return, I personally feel the future of the Jurassic World is rapidly going the way of the dinosaurs.
