Mohan's Measure ⭐⭐

Veduvan is a TV series but you can binge watch all of it in about 2 hours, less than the length of most other movies.  And unlike other thrillers in Tamil, this one is family friendly, for the most part, and steers clear of dystopian plot.  

The movie plays out as a story being told to an actor by its director, and the actor portraying the role such that he identifies with the character, a deceased cop who is marked as a hero and a martyr.  The story winds along well, with the entire focus being about an undercover cop and assassin who struggles with a powerful moral dilemma - the man he is assigned to kill is his former lover's husband. The mark also happens to be well respected in his village, known for his commitment to children and devotion to  the local deity.

While the Occidental Deity plays no role, it is interesting to see how patterns of Malayalam cinema play out in the guilt and confusion the assassin feels.  Duty versus the moral high ground is brought to fore and the director could have delved into it further. But it is just at this point that the plot loosens, leading to a less than exciting end. We can only blame the limited scope of the series for this awkward and predictable conclusion.  

So, while you will not kill to see this movie, it will certainly make its mark.
