Mohan's Measure ⭐⭐

The sand mafia has been glorified in KGF as a muscle bound set of anti-heroes. Reporting Live turns the table on this movie stereotype by showing the everyday people who serve as prey and collateral damage to the power mongers involved. The method employed, however, is interesting, but less than convincing.

Ms. Chopra and Mr. Bhojani are given understated roles as a reporter and cameraman who are covering a tragic bridge collapse that is covered up by local politicians as caused by a solar eclipse. Their investigation leads to the conclusion that the river is changing course because of the removal of layers of sand, which in turn, pulls them into the sand mafia.

The facts start to emerge, people are eliminated by the mob, and the familiar story of the lone underdog versus the villainous empire plays itself out, this time with Ms. Chopra's character at the helm.

Devoid of romance,  music, and gore,  the movie could have been an emotional thriller, much in the way of sabarmati Report. But the story is too shallow, making it impossible for the serious subject to be little more than a footnote. The acting, while notable, lacks depth. Everything feels too stoic. It's like watching the Vulcan version of Pelican Brief.

And, the villain, played by Nassar, is so contrived, he is a bird-brain.
